Foreign persons who enter Turkey legally by escaping from the civil war in their country, or in cases where they have to stay in Turkey for different reasons, can be given a short-term residence permit of up to 1 year. Humanitarian residence permits can be issued for the following reasons.
- When the best interest of the child is in question
- When foreigners are not allowed to leave Turkey even though a decision has been taken to deport them or to ban entry to Turkey, or when it is not deemed reasonable or possible for them to leave Turkey
- During the process of returning the applicant to the first country of asylum or safe third country
- Foreigners who need to be allowed to enter and stay in Turkey for urgent reasons or for the protection of the country’s interests, public order and public security
- In extraordinary circumstances, a short-term residence permit may be granted.
